- The crossover point.
The week
| Day 1 | Read the summary. Five key ideas and where the book overreaches. |
| Day 2 | Track every cent for one day. Write down every amount of money that comes in or goes out today, however small. Bad day: Write down the last three things you paid for and what each cost. |
| Day 3 | Find your real hourly wage. Work out your real hourly wage: what you keep from work divided by all the hours work really takes. Bad day: Add your weekly commute hours to your paid hours and write the new total. |
| Day 4 | Ask the three questions. Take five recent purchases and ask the book's three questions of each one. Bad day: Ask the first question of your last purchase and write yes or no. |
| Day 5 | Put up your wall chart. Draw a simple chart for the year and plot last month's total income and total spending on it. Bad day: Write last month's income and spending totals on a sticky note and put it where you'll see it. |
| Day 6 | Talk through one minus. Pick one purchase you marked minus earlier this week (or any purchase that felt off) and talk it over with someone you share money or life with. Bad day: Send one person a message naming one expense you've realized isn't worth the hours. |
| Day 7 | Book your monthly tally. Put a recurring monthly event in your calendar to total your spending by category and update the wall chart. Bad day: Create a repeating monthly reminder titled “Money tally.” |
